Tips to keep your pearly whites WHITE.
We pour so much time, money, and effort into our physical appearance. But many of us still neglect our teeth, despite our smiles being one of the most noticeable and signature parts of our aesthetic. People can recognise a beautiful smile from afar, and if you have one, you’ll often be showered with compliments in regards to it.
We generally want our teeth to be two things: straight and white. Sadly, many of us just don’t have teeth these characteristics by the time we are grown, adults. There are so many things in the way! For some of us, our genetics means that our teeth naturally grow crooked. For others, overuse of antibiotics, smoking, or excessive coffee consumption results in discolouration and patchy enamel. Some of us have accidents which result in chips or lost teeth, while others fail to maintain adequate dental hygiene and suffer decay. But the good news is that no matter the current state of your teeth, there’s a surefire way to improve them. Here are some of the options available to you.
Considering Dental Treatment
The most effective way to achieve the smile of your dreams is to partake in dental treatment. Of course, we should all attend the dentists at least once a year. But for more focused care in the areas that you’re most self-conscious about, you’re going to want to get in touch with a specialist who can meet your needs perfectly.
For whitening, avoid home-whitening kits at all costs. You have individual needs that cannot be catered to by a one-type-fits-all, over-the-counter product. They are likely to do more damage than good and fail to give you the result that you want anyway.
For tooth straightening, visit an orthodontist. They specialise in irregularities in the teeth and jaw and will be able to propose the perfect pace for getting your smile from crooked to perfectly aligned.
Consult Your Hygienist
You’d be surprised by the number of people who are still cleaning their teeth incorrectly as adults. It’s such a basic skill that we don’t often (excuse the pun) brush up on it. So consult your hygienist and check that you’re doing everything right.
Believe it or not, creating the most hygienic atmosphere possible in your mouth, is a little more complex than brushing up and down and rinsing with water. Your hygienist will be able to recommend the best toothbrush for your needs (manual or electric), paste, brushing style, how to use dental tape or floss on your front teeth, and how to use interdental brushes for your molars.
As you can see, achieving and maintaining the perfect smile is by no means an easy feat. It’s going to take time, effort, financial investment, and persistence. But the results are more than worth it!
Now, when someone yells “say cheese!”, we’ll turn readily to camera with a huge grin on our face rather than shying away into the background. Your self-confidence will take a boost and you will feel more comfortable and happier than ever before!
