Improve Your Photographs With These Top Photo Editing Tips

So you can create quality content for your Instagram.

If you want to start taking better photographs when you are travelling the world or even when you’re just sitting around in your living room then you are not alone. Thousands of people are sat at home right now trying to work out where they are going wrong. The truth is that photo editing software is the best way for you to really enhance your photos and the programs that are available now mean that you can get the whole thing done in a matter of minutes!

File Formats

Every photo that’s taken digitally is somewhat edited. When you press that shutter button, this triggers the camera save function. The image is then saved to the memory card. If you know that you are shooting in RAW then the camera will record the data on the memory card and this ultimately means that you will have to then develop the image yourself. RAW files are essentially rolls of digital film.

If you are choosing to shoot in JPG then the camera will take the image and it will process it for you. This includes adding things like contrast, sharpness and even saturation. Raw puts you in more control of your image so that you can then edit it yourself later. If you want to get the best result out of your photo editing then consider taking an advanced Premiere Pro training course, as this will help you to refine your existing editing skills.

Cropping

When you use the crop tool, you’ll find that this gives you the chance to change the aspect and even the ratio of the photograph. If you want to get the best result out of your photograph and your crop then it is a good idea for you to always shoot wider. When you shoot wider, you can then crop the image at a later date. It’s better to have a bigger image to work with than a smaller one, because a bigger image gives you many more options.

Levelling

One of the most annoying things that will happen to you when you are taking a photo outside is if the horizon line isn’t level in the photograph. Sometimes you just get caught up in the moment, but the truth is that this is very easy for you to sort out. All you have to do is use a tool to rotate the image, before adding a grid to make sure that the horizon is level. This is very simple, and it will only take a couple of seconds of your time. The end result however, is well worth it.

Shadows

When you take a photograph, especially in portrait photography, you have to make sure that you get the shadows right. If you don’t then you will have some parts of the photograph that are darker than others and you may also have some areas that are much brighter as well. You can change this by simply using either the “shadow” or the “highlight” tool that is in your editing software. You can even use this on RAW files if you want. A lot of editing software gives you the chance to do this automatically. If you are not sure how to do this then you could either add a layer onto the image and tweak the opacity before adjusting the shadows themselves. This will give you a good idea of whether you need the whole image to be lighter/darker or whether you need to adjust certain areas.

Animal Photography

We all like to take photographs of our pets. Pet photography however can be very difficult and it can also be very hard for you to get the animal to stay still for long enough as well. You really do need to be on-point and you also need to make sure that you take into account the fact that the pet will be moving. There are usually plenty of settings on a camera that allow you to cater for this, so make sure that these are always turned on if you are dealing with an energetic pet.

The last thing that you’ll want to happen is to have your pet in the perfect position, only to find that one small movement blurred your photo and ruined the whole shot. If you do get blur, then use the anti-blur function in the photo editing software that you have.

So these photography tips should certainly help you with your photographs, and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to get the best result out of your existing photos.
