Here’s how I turned ‘plus-size’ into ‘fun-size’!
Loving yourself for who you are is not an easy task, especially when there are ‘perfect’ people with ‘perfect’ body sizes and shapes plastered all over the media and online. Not to mention the hate that a lot of women with curvier bodies fall foul to; seeing celebrities trolled for gaining a pound or two doesn’t exactly fill you with confidence, does it? It’s not easy being a woman in today’s appearance-obsessed world.
That being said, it is important to realize that actually, your body is perfect just the way it is. Think of how strong your body is and how long it has supported you. There’s a fantastic quote doing the rounds on social media at the moment – ‘strong is the new pretty’ – and it is perfect. Being strong is so much better than being perfect in every way, that’s what a body should be – strong.
Bearing that in mind, the question is: how can you learn to love your size and shape more? Below are some pieces of inspirational advice, and some useful tips, to make loving yourself that little bit easier.
Dress for your body type (but wear what you love)
A lot of women find this advice slightly offensive, but they really shouldn’t. Anyone of any size and shape can (and should) wear what they like and feel comfortable in. That being said, the fact is that there are some outfits and styles that look better on certain body types, because of the fit of the pieces.
For instance, skater style dresses tend to look better on curvier bodies, rather than square shapes. Why? Because this style of dress is fantastic for accentuating your curves. The fact is that you can wear whatever you want to wear, but when it comes to feeling good about yourself and your size and shape, dressing for your body type can help you to do that.
If there’s an area of your body that you dislike, dressing to make it less noticeable can give your self-esteem a boost, which is why so many fashion experts recommend dressing to suit your body’s needs.

Accentuate your best assets
We all have things that we love about our bodies, whether that’s our long, lean legs, our curvy hips, or our perfectly toned arms, it doesn’t matter. The fact is that there will be something that you love about yourself and consider to be your best asset. Whatever it is, naturally you will want to accentuate it. By doing so, you will feel much better about yourself, happier and more confident. But how can you accentuate it?
For long legs, wearing black jeans or black tights and black trainers, shoes, or boots will make your legs look endless. For a curvy waist, snug, tight-fitting clothes will accentuate your waist, as well skater-style dresses that pull in at the waist – these also come with the added bonus of showing off your tiny waist. A tip that always works well when it comes to accentuating an area of your body is dressing that area in a bold print, and the parts that you want to hide in neutral colors, as the eye is always drawn to the boldest part of any outfit.
There’s no shame in change
If an area of your body is really starting to get you down, there is no shame in making changes. The fact is that while it is important to love yourself for who you are, sometimes it is okay to make changes to your appearance. Whether that means losing weight and slimming down or speaking with a breast augmentation doctor to help you decide of breast implants could be an option worth considering, it doesn’t matter. It is important that you love your body, and if that means changing it, then that is what you need to do. Confidence is key when it comes to loving your size and shape, which is why you have to do whatever it takes to ensure that you feel confident.
Boost your self-esteem
The fact is that if you don’t love yourself for who you are, you are never going to have any self-esteem. This can be a huge issue, as it can impact various areas of your life, from your personal happiness to your career and relationships. So learning to love your body for what it is, is important. It doesn’t matter if you look like the women in the magazines, all that matters is that you are healthy and happy with who you are.
There you have it, everything that you need to know about learning to love your size and shape more, and being happy and confident with who you are.
